Enrich Their Current Jobs – As outlined in Drive and The 2-Degree Difference, a small amount of job enrichment can go a long way toward improving discretionary effort. This is true for all generations but paramount for this one. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Ask regularly what the employee would like to more of, less of, or start doing
  2. Manage their expectations but find ways to provide small nuggets of what they want to do more of
  3. If they need more skills, experience or certifications to start doing something, make it clear what they are and start doing those
