Enrich Their Current Jobs – As outlined in Drive and The 2-Degree Difference, a small amount of job enrichment can go a long way toward improving discretionary effort. This is true for all generations but paramount for this one. Here’s what you can do:
- Ask regularly what the employee would like to more of, less of, or start doing
- Manage their expectations but find ways to provide small nuggets of what they want to do more of
- If they need more skills, experience or certifications to start doing something, make it clear what they are and start doing those
